Traditional Table Lamps
Changing the interior lighting in your home is the easiest way to change the look and atmosphere of a room. The variety and style of lighting options is very wide. If you have a traditional home, you are sure to find the range of traditional table lamps to your taste. These lamps would match a decor with perhaps wooden panelling, antique type chairs and heavy curtains, or an Art Deco or retro style.
Table lamps are available in many different styles. Some are in the shape of glass flowers such as orchids and roses and generally match floral effects in a room such as a lady's bedroom. The Tiffany style lamp copies the traditional leaded stained glass design from the Art Deco period. Its traditionally shaped glass lampshade casts a soft ambient light and creates a relaxed atmosphere in any room. It is available in an antique weathered bronze finish and a variety of shades with different motifs such as raindrops or dragonflies.
Other traditional table lamps in an antique brass finish include the candlestick column type. The stand is tall and slim with a minimum of details and the lampshade is of unadorned and unprinted fabric, usually in a square or round shape. This could suit the type of room where the lighting should be more practical than a decorative feature, such as a library or a man's study. These lamps often come as a pair as well and could be used as bedside lamps in a double bedroom.
Other finishes that are popular for more traditional lamps include brushed chrome and a gold finish. A waterfall type lampshade has glass or crystal droplets that seem to cascade out like a fountain. This creates the feel of a chandelier and casts many miniature rainbows throughout the room, giving it a warm atmosphere.
There are many different kinds of globes available for table lamps; it is suggested that soft creamy lighting is used for the traditional effect.
