Incandescents

Over the last several years, there has been a growing push to get people to use compact fluorescent and other so-called 'green' light bulbs as opposed to incandescents. You've probably heard about how great these bulbs are and how using them saves money and the planet. However, consumer confidence in these bulbs is somewhat misplaced. There are many things that make incandescents superior to the alternatives.

No Harmful Substances

When you hear about how compact fluorescents are better for the planet, what you're really hearing is a lie. Each standard-size CFL bulb contains as much as five milligrams of mercury, which is more than enough to cause severe health problems. This means that broken bulbs can pose a serious risk to you and your family. In the landfill, the mercury gets into the air, soil and water where it can poison wildlife and people. Incandescents lack this toxic feature.

Brighter Light

Not only do incandescents produce brighter light, they also do it faster. Compact fluorescent bulbs can take as long as 15 minutes to reach their potential, but they fail to provide as much light, even if they're the same wattage. This can be a huge inconvenience when you're doing something that requires excellent lighting.

Less Expensive

You've probably seen what it costs to buy even one CFL bulb. Somehow, it just doesn't make any sense to spend an hour's wages on one light bulb, even if it does last a bit longer. Unless you're leaving your lights on constantly, it's usually better to stick with incandescent bulbs. You can get several of these to a package for a fraction of what you'd pay for an alternative bulb.

The next time you need to buy light bulbs, keep these facts in mind. There are many good reasons to keep using incandescents and you can find a large variety available at tablelamps2go. As the old saying goes, if it isn't broken, don't fix it.
